Manufacturers’ Association’s Latest Annual Wage & Salary Survey Report Shows Dramatic Shift in the Manufacturing Workforce
(York, PA) The latest annual Manufacturing Wage & Salary report is available from the Manufacturers’ Association, which continues to highlight the immediate need to fill the region’s skilled hourly positions and replace the aging workforce. Report results show that manufacturers expect to increase employment by 1,146 over the next 12 months, which is more than double from the 2020 report and 75% more than 2019.
Important data in this year’s report includes:
- 88% of manufacturers are having difficulty hiring, with skilled hourly workers at the top of this list.
- 74% of manufacturers are hiring over the next 12 months, compared to only 40% in 2020.
- Pace of filling job openings changed, in comparing to the last 12 months. 86% are reporting that it’s taking longer to fill job openings and 40% of manufacturers are finding it takes 3 months or longer to hire, double from 2020.
- Premiums for non-first shift work and entry level wages have all increased dramatically
This survey is meant to serve as a benchmarking tool for manufacturing Human Resources and management companies and includes data for direct labor, salary exempt and non-exempt positions. This data collected from manufacturers across the region allows companies to determine where they stand relative to the marketplace in terms of wage and salary compensation, as well as helps companies gauge how competitive they are compared to others.
