This course is a study of the geometric controls set forth in ASME standard Y14.5M-1994 – Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the course the student will demonstrate a beginner’s level ability to interpret a symbolic language used on engineering drawings to communicate geometric information.
Course Outline:
- Datums – Constrained Motion; MMB and RMB related to Features of Size Datums
- Feature Control Frame – Interpreting the symbols in each compartment.
- Position – Basic Dimensions; Analysis of Material Condition Modifiers (MMC, LMC RFS)
- Rule #1 – Implied Form Error if Size Only is Specified
- Form & Orientation Controls – Definitions, Tolerance Zones, Inspection Practices
- Profile & Runout – Definitions, Tolerance Zones, Inspection Techniques.
- Modifying Symbols – Tangent Plane), Unequal, Projected and others.
