Career Exploration

Whether you’re entering the job market for the first time, changing careers after 20 years, or you are interested in a specific industry and trying to learn about different options, there is good news! The Association has several options for you to choose from.

APPRENTICESHIPS

We provide apprenticeship courses to help meet the needs of local businesses to train and develop skilled workers and to maintain a high quality workforce, to improve trade skills to enhance the efficiency and productivity of regional manufacturing. For more information on our apprenticeship program click above or view and/or download our Apprenticeship Catalog to see what career options we offer.

FOR OUR YOUTH – A Manufacturing Career can Offer a Great Job with Excellent Benefits!

The world we live in is designed and built, in large part, by well-trained manufacturing professionals. Manufacturing skills also deliver a typically better wage with better benefits then many non-manufacturing occupations!

Pre-Apprenticeship Program

The Manufacturers’ Association partnered with YCAL (York County Alliance for Learning) to give students the ability to explore a career before entering the workforce after graduation. This program is designed for high school seniors enrolled at YCAL’s partner schools who are considering pursuit of an Apprenticeship in a chosen trade after graduation! This program consists of 4 hands on sessions including: Quality & Measurement, Manufacturing Designs & Processing, Computer Design, and Intro to LEAN Manufacturing. To find out more information or to apply for the YCAL Pre-Apprenticeship Program click below!

Career Exploration Day

YCAL and The Manufacturers Association also partnered to host a Career Exploration Program. This one or two-day program is designed to provide students with an introductory view of a particular industry.  This program is held during the school day and are held at a sponsoring company’s location.  These programs are a great way for students to gain a general understanding of different career paths in a more condensed amount of time. This program is offered to you free of charge through a Partnership between the Association, YCAL, and your School District. With TWICE the national average of employees working in Manufacturing, York is the home of many cutting-edge facilities! Students attending this day will get to learn about several different manufacturing facilities in York County directly from manufacturing company representatives! More information and registration is below.

Manufacturing Day

Held annually on the first Friday in October, Manufacturing Day helps show the reality of modern manufacturing careers by encouraging thousands of companies and educational institutions around the nation to open their doors to students, parents, teachers and community leaders.

Manufacturing is all about skills. Depending on what sort of manufacturing career you’re interested in, the skills you’ll need can be acquired with a four-year degree or an industry certification, which can often be earned in two years or less! Visiting a manufacturer in your area is a great way to get a true first impression of manufacturing. And an MFG DAY event is a perfect opportunity to take this first step in learning what manufacturing is all about.

Today’s manufacturing involves so much more than the assembly line. There are lots of opportunities in engineering, IT, and sales and marketing, for instance. Find your career by exploring the options.
