COURSE DESCRIPTION
This four [4] week, twenty-five [25] hour course intended to prepare someone to be a CNC Mill Machine Operator (This course does not cover lathe operating. Lathe Operator training will be offered at another time). Machining centers will be the focus of this course and extensive hands-on experience will be provided. At the completion of this course, a student will be able to setup a machining center in order to produce and inspect parts based on a given set-up\job sheet. This is not a CNC programming course.
PREREQUISITES:
- An understanding of engineering drawings, dimensioning, and tolerances.
- Basic inspection skills (i.e., micrometers and calipers)
- Minimum math skills to include fractions, solving of basic mathematical formulas, and metric conversions.
OBJECTIVES
- Common tool identification
- Tool holder identification
- Selecting correct tool and tool holder for given operation(s)
- Identify work holding devices
- Identify machine axis movement
- Utilize basic/common G-code commands
- Load tools into machine using MDI commands
- Set and inspect tool length offsets (with and without tool-probes)
- Load & indicate milling vice
- Set work/fixture offsets.
- Apply cutter compensation & tool nose radius compensation.
- Write simple program at machine control (Haas controls).
- Understand basic speeds and feeds calculations
- Understand Job set-up sheets and tool lists
- Understand the use and maintenance of coolant
- Utilize wear offsets
- Make basic inspections of machined parts
- Set up machine and run part program as specified in set-up sheet
