Navigating DOL Salary Thresholds and Non-Compete Agreements

  1. DOL Salary Threshold Increase:
    • Effective July 1, 2024: The salary threshold will elevate to the equivalent of an annual salary of $43,888.
    • Further Increase: On January 1, 2025, the threshold will rise to $58,656.
  2. FTC Ruling on Non-Compete Agreements:
    • Breaking News: The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) voted Tuesday, with a slim majority of 3-2, to ban measures commonly known as non-compete agreements.
    • Understanding the Impact: These agreements restrict workers from transitioning to or founding competing enterprises for a stipulated duration.
    • Scale of Impact: According to the FTC, approximately 30 million individuals, constituting roughly one in five workers, are currently bound by such restrictions.
